2008 Paris Motor Show: Venturi Volage Concept

venturi-volage-electric-concept-20.jpg

With the acronym "EV" being one of the hottest abbreviations out there in the auto world, it's no surprise that the Venturi Volage concept car, which basically takes “Michelin Active Wheel” technology, incorporating 2 electric motors per wheel (1 for suspension and 1 for drive). What this then means is that this car would have a grand total of 8 electric motors working together simultaneously in real time by some pretty high-tech electronics. The Volage features also an electric shock absorber system that allows it to change at a moment's notice to any type of surface and driving.

Well, you can't argue with progress, and while my assumption is that with the early stage of electric vehicles and the seemingly complex item this type of concept represents=high dollar cost for consumers. I think probably some people would also be a little leery of the safety issue and the fact that there is such a detailed control over 8 electric motors. How reliable would something like this be? How often would you need to have diagnostics to ensure the safety? I know I sound like a Nervous Nancy, but this would be at least the first things running through my mind...
