2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Pricing announced

escaladehybrid.jpg

Cadillac has come out with its pricing for the 2009 Escalade Hybrid, and while every single car model that has a hybrid version of it carries a premium price tag for the "hybrid" name, the difference is generally acceptable. However, in the Escalade's case, I don't think that this is an "acceptabe" difference.

Why? The base for the hybrid will be approximately 72K and will give an estimated MPG of 20/21. The "regular" version of the Escalade will go for a little over 58K. The hybrid model will incorporate Active Fuel Management technology that enables the Vortec V-8 engine to operate on only four cylinders in certain driving conditions to save fuel.

Ok...let's do some math here...If you are really--really--REALLY--wanting an Escalade, and you are deciding on which model to buy, consider that the normal Escalade has a 14 MPG rate, which then means a difference of almost 6-7 MPG. If you take 4.50/gallon at the normal 12,000/yr, that means a saving of approximately 1,000 a year....for a difference in price of 14,000. So...where is the fuel savings? Ummm..hello??

Not that I would buy either....but that's just me....
