2010 Chevrolet Equinox to be more fuel efficient

General Motors has taken what they think is the best of both worlds to make a crossover SUV that they hope will be able to compete against the Ford Escape Hybrid and other popular crossovers. In this, it took the design of the popular Malibu and also with the SUV concept of the Traverse to form the 2010 Chevy Equinox. What's better is that it is coming in two different versions, one of which puts it on a MPG scale comparable to many smaller cars that have great fuel economy.

The 2010 Equinox offers direct-injection engines. GM said the 2.4-liter, four-cylinder model is expected to get 30 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 mpg in the city — a 25 percent improvement over the previous model. A 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engine increases horsepower from 182 to 255 and gets an estimated 25 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in the city.

While pricing has not yet been discussed on a whole, I would fully expect the standard version to be comparable to that of the Escape and Hyundai Santa Fe. This is again one of those moves that really could be a boon for GM if it takes off, and especially if gas prices stay reasonable--for a while, anyways.
