A 220 MPG Super Car?

With all of the future looming large for car makers with the pressure to produce more and more cars that are better for fuel economy, Hybrid Technologies, a company based out of North Carolina, is set to possibly release by 2009 a "super car" that could get 220 miles to the gallon.

Yowza.

The look isn't bad either, with a Porsche Carrera GT styling that is really sharp. One of the biggest complaints I've always had about some of the hybrids and smaller compacts that are better for our environment is that, well, they are just not all that great to look at; the Prius isn't exactly the most pleasant in the world, wouldn't you say?

The car has not been given an official name, but it has been confirmed as an entry to the Automotive X contest, which is an international showdown offering a large sum first prize to the best production-ready vehicle that can get more than 100 mpg. Hybrid Technologies has all but promised a fully electric version with a range of 150-180 miles will also be made. Of course there shouldn't be any idea that the car will be commercially available for quite some time if at all, but Hybrid Tech officials have said it will be “wild”.
