And Mitsubishi makes 5: No longer attending Detroit Auto Show

concept RA mitsubishi.jpg

Rolls-Royce, Land Rover, Ferrari and Suzuki already said that they will not be attending the 2009 Detroit Auto Show due to the global economy, falling car sales, and the cost of being in the show. And now, Mitsubishi has officially taken its hat out of the DAS ring, citing the same issues for its departure.

The thing is, this may not be the end of everything--almost every car maker that is still "in" has said that they are still reviewing their place in the show. In the face of everything going on in what was the former burgeoning automotive capital of the world, it would certainly be one of the ultimate slap in the faces of the big three if the majority of auto makers won't make the trip there, and crippling to the already bloodied image of Detroit.

I can't say that I am surprised, nor can I say that I am actually blaming any of the five thus far for their decision--these are businesses and regardless of how "big" something may have been at a given times, this is a different time and a different place.
