BMW raises prices across the board

Citing a rise in raw materials costs and a weak dollar, BMW announced that for all models produced as 2009 models would have a 2.1 percent rate increase. This represents the second time that BMW has raised its prices in the US since just June, when it enforced a 1% increase.

Despite sagging sales (there has been approximately 8% in decreases over the first seven months of 2008), BMW still is focused on dumping money into the United States, where it will pour 750 million into its South Carolina plant. The plant will likely continue to churn out X5 and X6 SUVs, and may be a central production area for the next-gen X3.

This shows promise in the long run but is still a risky move short-term, despite the fact that the majority of those looking for the BMW brand won’t be affected as much by a 2% increase overall, considering the type and already stiff price that beamer label carries for all of its cars and SUVs.
