BMW Wins Race To Integrate Apple's iPhone

bmw_iphone.jpg

In 2004, BMW was the first to integrate the iPod into BMW vehicles and have customers take full control of their music on the road. So it seemed only logical that BMW be among the first to ensure iPhone owners have the same ability to enjoy their music, plus the added benefits of Bluetooth® hands-free calling across our model line. We are pleased to announce that BMW owners can use their iPhone in this way from day one.
This will be a short-lived public relations victory for BMW as other automakers will not be far behind to profess their undying love for the iPhone with integration announcements of their own.

It is interesting to see this type of customization for mobile support role out on U.S. models first. Of course, this is by necessity as the iPhone is currently only available in the U.S. market, but typically anything mobile would go out internationally before coming to the U.S.. The European mobile market is much larger and more mature than the American mobile market, and here you have Apple taking advantage of their strength domestically to gain a foothold where other handset manufacturers may be sleeping on the job.

The iPhone is an American hit, we know that already. But will the international market fall in love, or spit out the iPhone? When or if the Peugeots of the world start announcing iPhone integration, we'll have that answer.
