Canadian Auto Workers' Head calls Chrysler "Stupid"

Blame the UAW and its fancy concessions it received in the new agreement with Chrysler LLC. Whatever you do, don't compare or think that the Canadian Auto Workers, though, will do the same. When Chrysler announced that several shifts and also jobs in the Ontario plant were going to follow after the auto maker decided to cut the Pacifica and Magnum models, the idea was that the retooling effort was in response to the new contract.

However, according to the CAW, the move is basically "stupid", according to Buzz Hargrove, the CAW union leader. The CAW is claiming that the cutbacks are more than what is needed for Chrysler to recoup, and in the end all they are doing is limiting supply and driving demand, which therefore increases their bottom line, instead of honoring the workers that have made these models successful overall.

It is interesting that this extended into Ontario, because I would have really thought the immediate effects were kept in the states. The CAW is obviously perturbed and the negotiations with this group for those that are around will be very interesting to see what will happen on a mass level. Either way, Chrysler has been exposed and the reaction could hit all of our pockets.
