Canadian Premier fearful that Obama will pull jobs from Ontario

dalton250.jpg

Citing the fact that he feels that with the auto economy in dissary in America, Canadian Premier Dalton McGuinty has stated that he fears with president-elect Barack Obama looking to make some serious headway into the problem, that the solution may mean some repatriating of jobs and therefore moving several of the satellite positions that reside in Canada back to the United States.

It's no secret that the Canadian auto industry has really gotten hit just as bad as the rest of the world, but without the big time auto makers really having residence in Canada, it has relied on being an outsourced venue for production and auto workers for such big namers like the Big Three. However, with the fact that there had been serious discussion of a merger between GM-Chrysler, as well as the uncertain future of the companies all together, the fear of job losses within the US could reach epic proportions, so therefore the most obvious choice to keep from jobs being lost en masse is to shift them all back stateside.

Such a move would be devastating to a Canadian economy that has already felt the brunt of credit issues and leaders have started to speak out in defense of the auto industry. NDP Leader Jack Layton called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to include help for the auto sector in the soon to be held Speech from the Throne. If Canada simply sits back and does nothing, this country would sacrifice its traditional role as the producer of a proportion of the cars made in North America, Mr. Layton told reporters. Ugh.
