Car Czar may be named very soon

volcker_obama_main.jpg

I love the pic. Special thanks to eGMCartech for this funny.

But it does have some irony to it. The "Car Czar", who will basically function as the great and powerful Oz of the Detroit Big Three as one of the stipulations for the federal 15B dollar bailout package, could be named as early as next week, and that person could very well be former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker to head the restructuring of the auto industry. Volcker was recently appointed by Obama as his adviser to get the U.S. economy out of recession.

(By the way, I love the moniker. It sounds so...um...."Stalin-ish".)

This person will have a ton of power, that is for sure--the responsibility and accountability will be monumental, such as when a car maker spends more than 25 million, it basically must be run through the appointed person. But if it is pulled off, oh the things that it will do for that person....but if they fail, yikes. For everyone.

No pressure, Paul.
