Daimler adding 1K jobs in 2009

daimler.jpg

Well, not all is bad in the automotive industry, I guess. Daimler announced today that they would be adding 1000 jobs in 2009, including 500 alone in Stuttgart, Germany. Citing an effort "to prepare the next generation of employees". At the same time, the company will be unable to cut any jobs at German facilities until at least 2012 because of an existing agreement with employees, company spokeswoman Marina Krets said in Stuttgart.

So, I guess it's a good time to be working for Daimler, eh?

With all kinds of layoffs happening globally as well, there has to be something behind this plan, even though there was no real "meat" behind the news that I could think of--The company said it is prepared to adjust to market demand through flexibility measures that protect its core business.

Whatever that means.
