Does this car make me look fat?

MSNBC's auto portion discusses how American cars are getting slimmer and more efficient. If only we as people were! Seriously, folks, with the move away from the gas-guzzling humungo SUVs and Trucks that adorned our highways en masse for the past decade, this is meaning a distinct flavor that us as Americans are asking for with this change--because we couldn't just be happy with having fuel economy, could we?

Let's take, for example, the MINI Cooper. My wife loves it for the look, but why is it ultimately selling the way it has and will? Is it because it has something that no other car does? Well, kind of--it combines the superlightweight frame that has a good engine, good gas mileage, and it still retains the sporty look and luxury features that we have become spoiled with. It's not surprising that even as we kick and scream about gas prices that we want our cake and to fuel it too :)

While aerodynamics for the sake of fuel efficiency has produced some whopping numbers in terms of gas economy,it hasn't exactly given us Mona Lisas, either. But--again--isn't this what got us in trouble in the first place? We're not learning from our status-symbolitis, we're merely adapting it for something that we can not feel guilty about.

*Sigh...*
