Edwards' tenacity pays off at Pocono

The clouds were darkening, the crowd was restless, and the pit crews for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Pocono Raceway were confused. When to pit? When not to pit? What would happen? Well, in Carl Edwards case, his crew and him wisely pitted before the rain started falling, and while 19 other drivers stayed on the track wondering if the race would be rain-shortened, it didn't, and it proved to be the move that gave Edwards his 4th victory on the year.

When the red flag came out for 41 minutes, Edwards was in prime position and was able to stretch his gas out until the final lap, outlasting Tony Stewart by almost four seconds. Sentimental favorite Mark Martin looked like for most of the day that he was going to take the title, but two problematic pit stops doomed him; Kasey Kahne, on the other hand, went with the idea that the rain would shorten the race, and was in command--but that strategy didn't pay off and he finished 7th.

It was not a tremendously eventful race, but I think it's cool to see not only the ins and outs of racing when you are talking just on the track--especially in Pocono with 3 turns and the 5-6 wide possible straightaway--but with the consideration of weather--it makes it even more interesting to see how things pan out.
