Experts: Public needs more education on fuel economy

SP32-20060908-075838.jpg

Hydrogen cells. Ethanol. Diesels. Hybrids. Electric. All of these forms of cars and their impact on the fuel "crisis" per se, and what do we have out of it? Well, not much so far. Fuel costs are spinning even further out of control, oil prices are continuing to climb, and yet here we are with all of these options available for better fuel economy in front of us. It's almost like the metaphor "Water Water everywhere but not a drop to drink".

Why? Because having too much of a good thing is not good, according to experts. With all of these possibilities available, experts are warning that the development costs and the non-commitment of all of these options will actually cost consumers more in the end--and still doesn't guarantee a more efficient future. The key is finding a feasible option, siphoning that down, and educating the public about the economy in as many ways as possible.

One of the ways is through both positive and negative reinforcement--first of all, it would be a bad idea to continue to charge premium costs and add price to the fuel economy options; hybrids typically cost more than 4000 than regular cars, and adding the electric portion to the hybrid is an extra 2000. Basically, to have this available--you've got to pay more--so then, what exactly is the huge short-term incentive? Plus, offering more tax credits for having these types of "green" options is a must--while charging more of a carbon tax to those people still insistent on driving around Hummers. The fact of the matter is unless there is some distinct direction, all we're doing is continuing to tread water, and sooner or later, we're going to drown.
