Fiesta ECOnetic to get 67 MPG--overseas

ford_fiesta_news_image_front.jpg

Ford had announced recently that the Focus ECOnetic would be offered as a great new "green" car, but it would not be available in the United States--for now. And then, almost like rubbing salt in the wounds, it now announces that it will also release a Fiesta version of the ECOnetic, which as a 5-speed manual transmission, will yield 67 MPG. And guess what? It's not going to be available in the States either.

From an American's perspective like myself, this bites.

The Fiesta will be powered by a 1.6 turbodiesel that will give this little bugger 89 HP. The fuel efficiency has also been helped by the aerodynamic design as well as dropping weight. It has been made known that even with the drop in weight, that doesn't mean a drop in some pretty popular options, unlike some other cars out there willing to drop everything for an extra mile or two.

I applaud Ford's efforts to continue to try and green it up more, but come on, can you throw us a bone? A little one? Maybe a rawhide chew? I'm panting here....
