Ford Focus making ground on Civic, Corolla

2008_ford_focus.jpg

While the compact car segment continues to be the biggest upside in the automotive industry in the face of sagging sales all the way around, (not discounting the subcompact segment) the Honda CIvic has been near the topfor quite some time as one of the category favorites. At this point, the Civic has sold over 285K thus far.

Close behind is the Toyota Camry, which has suffered a bit of a decline this year and is at approximately 280K overall. The Ford Focus, while behind significantly compared to these numbers at more than 165,000 cars sold, has made up some gaps between the industry leaders Civic and Camry, enjoying at near 25% increase over last year. Of course it is enjoying the gas price issue as people also look for something a bit more affordable than the higher-priced Camrys and Civics, and it has been given decent quality reviews overall.

Will the trend continue? Maybe. With Toyota throwing in their zero percent financing including the Camry, the gap may widen a bit in light of this, but you can't be too unhappy for Ford that has suffered along with General Motors and Chrysler.
