Ford planning on complete revamp of North American Production

ford_f_150_front_logo_news_image.jpg

Taking a page from Toyota and Nissan, the Ford company is now in major discussions about completely retooling its North American Production and making a major shift away from trucks to more fuel-efficient vehicles. While there has been scares as to what the sweeping changes that inevitably were coming down the pike in the United States for consumers and workers, it seems that instead of chopping off heads, they are merely making some changes across the globe to try and pacify the entire US economy at the same time.

The idea is that, unlike Japanese automakers who are really just changing one plant or some minor things across the board, Ford is planning on bringing the car/compact sedan production that currently they make overseas back to the states and massively decrease truck and SUV production. Will it work? Well, one school of thought is that they are taking one for the proverbial team, as it is widely known that the labor that they pay for outside of the States is much cheaper.

But in the long run, this could pay dividends in the country's confidence with the company and perhaps propel them in the future. It's a gamble, and maybe it wasn't exactly planned and instead a pressure-oriented move based on Toyota's and Nissan similar announcements, but to the auto workers of America, they don't care how it was reached--the fact is, this means a lot of people will be able to keep their jobs.
