Ford: Please Pimp Your Focus

ford_focus_pimp.jpgLater this month in Las Vegas the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) will hold their annual exhibition show and in a nutshell, it is essentially 'the' place to be for showcasing aftermarket parts and accessories for both cars and motorcycles.

Just to give you some perspective on this, the aftermarket parts and accessory business is an approx. $40 billion market and growing annually. It's big business, and more and more automakers are starting to wake up to the profit potential and market desire of consumers to 'pimp their ride'.

Ford is one such company that is putting a lot of resources into the upcoming SEMA showcase. Ford is expected to showcase up to nine different 'customized' versions of the Ford Focus in an effort to stake its claim to some of the marketshare that the Honda Civic has been running away with in recent years. Just how serious is Ford about helping consumers 'pimp their Focus'? Ford is planning to offer a full complement of customized wheels, rims, audio systems (extra subwoofers, of course!), racing tweaks and parts and full-body manipulation kits.

This customization trend is anything but a fad and is clearly here to stay. Ford is just one among a long line of automakers who are/will begin taking the wants/needs of the aftermarket seriously.
