Ford to sell off Mazda?

mazda_100166294_m.jpg

Citing the need to stay solvent and avoid bankruptcy, automotive news reported that Ford is considering selling most of its 33.4 percent holding" in Mazda which it reported from Japanese newspaper Nikkei. The discussion comes after the continued slippage of its stock price as well as trying to get some cash rounded up to avoid the "B" word.

While Ford and Mazda are not saying too much on this, silence could mean a resounding "yes" actually. Ford CEO Alan Mulally insists that filing for bankruptcy does not make sense to the company, and said they plan instead to focus on a company turnaround and exceedingly careful cash management.

Would this be a good move? I don't think so. While GM was trying to dish Hummer out as fast as it was losing them money, this is not the same situation with Mazda, and while it may provide short-term cash, the long term may not show it to be a greatly overall beneficial move. There has to be other ways instead of selling off decent quality brands as a fire sale of sorts. Think it over, Alan.
