France to give more aid for failing auto industry

Well, I wouldn't call it a "frenzy" per se, but it definitely is one that is catching on as a trend for governments that are directly affected by the auto industry. France's President Nicolas Sarkozy had already announced a couple of weeks ago that France was not going to sit idly by and watch an industry which employs almost 10% of the workforce just go away.

"A plan for the French automobile sector before the end of January is not a protectionist measure, it's to help our industries build the cars of the future," he said, evoking the development of electric vehicles. He had already announced that there would be the equivalent of 2 billion dollars to the auto industry, and now he feels that there should be more. He has asked that the industry minister, Luc Chatel, to come up with a plan by the end of December.

The biggest players in the French game are obviously Renault and Citroen, and the passion that Sarkozy has for these two power players is commendable.
