Gas prices down, but so is demand

gas_pump_3.ce.03.jpg

Even though gas has continued to drop like a rock after it was up to over 4.11 in the United States in July and as of this week was about 2.90, there has been little change in terms of the demand for gas and it continues to drop along with it. Does this make sense? Well, in a sense, yes it does.

Consider this--the economy sucks. People are losing their tails in the stock market, and even though they have to go driving off to work during the week, the driving amounts during the weekend have gone down dramatically--people just don't have the money to spend at the places they would normally drive to, so they are staying home. Likewise, when the gas prices shot through the roof, our chicken little society panicked that the sky was falling and bought up hybrids like it was bleach during a hurricane scare (I don't get that, by the way). Of course this means that people are not needing as much gas because of that, and therefore driving down the demand as well.

Will this change? Well, I am sure it will at some point--but it may not be until the spring time again when demand will start with the traveling season again. Until then, maybe that will continue to drive down gas prices even further! Woo hoo!
