GM CEO: We're going to try to make more money

rick_wagoner_state_obvious.jpg

It was like one of those Yogi Berra quotes, the type of sentiment where you hear it and you kind of can't believe the person said it because it seems like something no one should really have to say, but then a comic tinge is usually attributed to it.

But, in this case, I don't think there was much tongue-in-cheek involved. Evidently GM CEO Rick Wagoner has sent a communication to other big kahunas in the company stating “The rapid rise in fuel prices and change in auto industry sales mix have made market and economic conditions very challenging,” Wagoner said. “We’re responding quickly and aggressively with a steady stream of actions to better position GM for sustainable profitability and growth.” (Credit EGMcartech)

So....basically you sent something to other people telling them you're going to try and do your job? Wow...what a concept...But again, not surprising at all considering some of the boneheaded things that have come out of the big three in 2008. At least this time it's because of something other than losing money. Of course, like always, there's not much meat to the statement, because the fact is I am sure Mr. Wagoner is sitting in his office right now scratching his forehead so hard he's starting to chafe.

Here's a clue---start building cars and planning for production on things people want and take the losses on the oil tank style trucks and SUVs! (I know, easier said than done--but so was his statement, SO THERE!)
