GM hastening decision to bring Chevrolet Beat to United States

MK-AQ475_MINIco_20080704183824.jpg

The General Motors mini car lines, which have obviously done well overseas, are now facing increasing pressure in the United States to bring over at least something to whet the appetite of those seeking to get a gas-sipping car of the "Smart" car variety.

So, in discussion of this issue, GM has said that it will rush to make a decision as to whether they will do so--possibly even by 2012. The idea is that after years of the American public going big, the need to go small is indeed evident, but it seems that the company still won't pull the trigger. Funny that this isn't a no-brainer, considering that GM's overall sales are down in the double digits for 2008.

Ford, on the other hand, has no plans on bringing its mini car Ka to the States anytime soon, but has said if it does decide, it will already be positioned to do so when they feel the "need". I don't get it....Smart cars have already shattered expectations and will probably go over their 16K estimate of sales by a mile..Yet, here are the bumbling American companies not even ready to make wholesale changes to get wholesale results. Whatever....
