GM waives bye bye to Tiger

tiger_woods_buick.jpg

Tiger Woods, one of General Motors biggest endorsers, had one year left on his contract with GM. Note the word had. In an announcement made today, the car company dropped Woods from its marketing roster one year earlier than obviously planned, citing the need for cash and again showing that they are desperate to keep their head above water.

But why Woods? This is obviously a guy who has a million and one sponsors, but GM has obviously been one of the big ones for quite some period of time. They had Woods on their team for almost a decade, and it was stated that “Both GM and Woods agreed to a mutual and amicable separation that included a desire for more personal time for the 14-time major winner who is expecting his second child in late winter as well as the search for budget efficiencies during a difficult economy for General Motors,”.

I guess that the thought is that no matter how big the star, it is not going to help sales in terms of return, so then bye bye, Tiger. Something tells me he's not broken up entirely by this move.
