Hawaii to possibly hit 5.00 a gallon today

The situation with how gas prices go on the islands of Hawaii are quite a bit different than all other areas of the United States. In this, when a shipment of fuel is delivered, the price for the gas is set for three months. But with the price of gas in Hawai'i steadily increasing, sometimes almost daily, the three-month lag can lead to a sticker-shock spike on the island of Lana'i.

The sticker-shock price, in this case, is the nation's first look at 5.00 a gallon. Sure, it isn't under the normal conditions, but it is yet another sign of all things bad with fuel economy and gas prices. It's the nature of the fuel supply on Lana'i, which is a low-demand market with a population of just over 3,000. Maui Oil needs to ship to Lana'i every 12 weeks, with some leeway for weather and ocean conditions.

This is really not a surprise to anyone other than the people of Hawaii. While it's always been known that the luxurious lifestyle of Hawaii means a ridiculous cost of living, this is just the beginning of what we'll all have to go through--probably by the fourth of July. Yey America....or something.
