Honda Element - Boxy But Good?

honda_element.jpgThe Honda Element is one of those vehicles that garners a 'love it' or 'hate it' reaction in most people. I can't remember a car, perhaps since the original Volkswagen Beetle, that truly evokes such a bi-polar of emotions from consumers. For some, the exterior boxiness is so outrageously unappealing that they would never consider driving one, let alone be seen in one. But those who do love it, really, really love it.

It tends to attract a younger demographic than your typical utility-focused vehicle, and that was definitely Honda's plan from the outset when they launched the Element in 2003. If you are in the market for a utility vehicle and can stomach the looks, you may want to consider taking the Element for a test drive especially if you're tall. Perhaps no other vehicle offers the head-clearance that the Element boasts, thanks in large part to that boxy frame. In Canada, the Element's sales figures are ok, but given the practicality of the vehicle and our climate, I'm actually surprised Honda is not selling more of them. For Honda Canada, when it comes to SUV sales the higher-end Acura MDX is the runaway king and nothing else comes close.

That unique-looking, boxy frame means there is no center-door post. What does this enable you to do? Have a look.

Yes, there is even an Element Owner's Club.
