Hybrid Ferrari: Bring it on!

ac-ferrari.jpg

Got a ton of money and are still environment conscious? Well, then look no further than the possibility of a hybrid Ferrari. The Italian carmaker has stated that it will reduced its emissions by almost 40% by 2012 by pairing a mild hybrid powertrain mating its petrol engines with electric assistance.

Ferrari has been under a bit of pressure to decrease the emissions issue and to be more green. According to a report on Yahoo! Autos, lightweight materials, smaller cars, more efficient engine ancillaries, low-rolling resistance tires and even active drag-reducing aerodynamics are ways Ferrari are looking at minimising its environmental impact, many of these highlighted on its Mille Chili concept early last year.

I don't know really waht to think about this--I mean, if you have this much money, is having this type of car more of a guilt purchase? As in--Well, I have more money than I can spend wisely, but I'll make sure that everyone knows that it's at least environmentally sound. Don't get me wrong, anything that is better than the norm is a bonus, I am just again confused as to why higher end cars, who have buyers who aren't all that concerned with gas economy, are getting consideration, while other cars, who are more mainstream, aren't getting much play.
