Hybrid version of iQ on the way

toyota_iq_inside_line.jpg

The Toyota iQ has already created a lot of buzz with the "unveiling" to occur at the Paris Motor Show. The new information is that the car maker is also getting ready to produce a hybrid version of the iQ which potentially could be available by 2010.

While Toyota, as always, won't confirm specs or details on the plan, the word on the street is that it consists of a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine producing 70-hp or a 1.4 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel making 89-hp. It will take its muse from the next-gen Prius, which means that we're talkin' plug it in, plug it in! This technology allowing for at least 15 miles on electric power alone.

This move is not really a surprise, and with the continual move towards expanding the line of hybrids and with the iQ already making the noise that it is, the sales and numbers are definitely in the cards for Toyota.
