Hyundai and Kia forecasting--GASP!--4 percent sales increase in 2009

I'm sorry, what was that? A sales INCREASE? Ha! That's a good one! No--wait....you're serious?

Hyundai and Kia have stated that they are targeting a 4 percent sales increase in 2009 globally, which is obviously in sharp contrast to what the rest of the auto industry is doing--which is not just having smaller increases or small decreases, but some have massive decreases in their future. This is kind of a surprise for this type of optimism, not just because it is against the grain, but that the bulk of Hyundai and Kia's product pushes are for SUVs and luxury vehicles, which are at the lowest end of demand right now in the bigger selling countries.

However, it is expected in less developed "car countries" like Russia and South America, that both brands will be selling a ton of lower end, less expensive vehicles which may make up the bulk of this forecast. While this report is unverified and Hyundai had no comment on the idea of having this estimate, the auto maker has consistently been looking at the silver lining in terms of reports, so if this becomes official, I wouldn't be surprised in the least.
