Hyundai thinks Genesis will sell over 50K units in US

hyundai_genesis_coupe_sedan_image.jpg

Hyundai has relied upon several different models of cars which have been sold more because of the fact that they are economical and affordable. Have they been great cars? Eh....I guess. Not really. Well, with the new Genesis sedan and coupe, along with the possibility of a lithium-ion Sonata in 2010, Hyundai is hoping to shed that image--at least a little bit.

The Genesis is a bit more on the upscale side in terms of the quality, as well as the price tag--the base 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan starts at $33,000 while the range-topping sedan starts at $38,000. As for the 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe, sources say that pricing will start just under $26,000.

While it's not in the "luxury" category, it still shows that Hyundai is obviously making a spin to really get into the "game", so to speak. But is the timing right? The Sonata hybrid is definitely the way to go in terms of following the "tide", but is trying to up your brand by offering more expensive cars when the majority of the public in the US is looking to spend less because of a failing economy and soaring gas prices? I'm not sure this is the best move--right now. It sure take cahones, that's for sure....
