J.D. Power says global auto sales lower than expected

chevy_cruze.03.jpg

Is this really something that is unexpected?

With the global economy facing almost a time of sheer panic, the automotive industry has been swooning and swooning awfully. And now J.D. Power has come out with the prediction that car sales are going to be at approximately 10.8 million by the end of the year, which is approximately 2 million cars less than 2007--and that figure was already low.

Overall light vehicle sales, including both fleet and retail, will drop by 16% to 13.6 million units, J.D. Power said. And sales are expected to drop even further in 2009. Light vehicle sales, or sales of vehicles other than heavy-duty trucks, that year are seen hitting 13.2 million units.

When discussed with the quality expert as to the expected turnaround, an industry specialist thought that it would be at least 18 months until the ship would begin to right itself, functioning out of the idea that the electric hybrids and the small car craze will begin to give the global sales much more of a way to make money as well as the global economy as a whole will be much better by then.

We'll see.
