Kentucky Speedway may sell out for IRL Meijer 300

Despite the fact that it's apparent Scott Dixon will win the Indy Racing League points going away, along with the blistering August dog day heat, as of this morning there were only 2,000 grandstand tickets remaining for Saturday's Meijer Indy 300 to be held at the Kentucky Speedway. Qualifying is tomorrow, and my guess is that they will get close to that number if not sell out completely. This will be the first IRL capacity crowd at the Speedway if it indeed does happen.

IRL officials as well as the speedway couldn't be happier, citing that it was apparent that people are choosing to more than likely be staying closer to their home venues and attending those events this summer more than ever. The Sparta, KY, venue holds almost 67,000.

This is great news for IRL, who has needed to have news like this for a while. The league has taken a bit of flak for its 2009 schedule not having Michigan International Speedway on it, so this positive bit of information certainly will help its image, and if there's any racing league that needs all the boosts it can get, it's IRL.
