LS600H Sales up 300%: Green going gold?

The hybrid has revolutionized car sales, but nothing has burst onto the scene like the Lexus LS600H--considering that when the makers talked about how many they were going to initially release in July of this year was 2000--and even before they hit the lot there were already 1600+ on order--and now--there's been 6000+ that have been sold--yes, folks, that's 300% in increased sales.

While some of the other luxury automakers have continued to keep everyone on the hook as to what they are going to do, Lexus keeps on rolling along. The Camry Hybrid has gone up 47%, which is great, but nothing will touch the Lexus until the field is more saturated. Plus, it gives a "gold" feel to green, whereby those who spend on the 100K price tag can actually have some type of environmental excuse instead of just seeming like frivolously spending on a car.

Not to say that the car is awful, but let's face it--even when it came out, industry experts said that the idea of hybrid being fuel efficient and the fact that the LS600H had a lower-than-thought MPG that it seemed on a level that the idea of the Lexus hybrid was kind of an oxymoron.

So, will any car/SUV/whatever break the Lexus head of steam? The 2008 Highlander Hybrid may have a chance to make some headway, but unlikely.
