Mazda to try to send Volt to Chevy with similar planned model

chevyvolt1.jpg

It's no secret that the Chevrolet Volt has been touted as the savior for both Chevy and well, General Motors, for that matter. The plug-in hybrid is not only sporty and sleek, but it also boasts some of the most highly anticipated technology to ever hit the auto industry in decades (as a mass model).

But there have been reports that they aren't the only one working on an advanced model of this type. Mazda, who has been rumored to have been using Mazda 5 MPV body shell, disguising a rotary engine and battery setup, are well into the testing phase of the car in Japan and plans to be active in the plug-in market by no later than 2015.

Yes, this is a ways off, but there hasn't been much of anything in terms of what competitors are planning to do with the behemoth response to the Volt. Competition is good, right?
