Merger will mean swan song for 7 Chrysler models

From EGMCarTech:

According to a report by consulting firm Grant Thornton LLP, the deal would cause a loss of about 100,000 to 200,000 jobs between the two companies, suppliers and other involved in the development of Chrysler vehicles. Chrysler has already announced the sale of its Viper business. Grant Thornton says that an additional four plants will close along with the two closings already announced. Models that could be discontinued include the Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger, Jeep Liberty, Dodge Nitro and the Dodge Ram pickups.

Yipes. For loyal customers, these names are huge--especially the SUV variety. Never would I have thought that something as popular as the Jeep Liberty would be taken to pasture, nor the Ram pickups. But I guess business is business, and with the possibility of the deal going through as soon as early next week should financing be done, the numbers and the losses of manpower continues to swell.

The two headed giant would have 1/3 of United States automotive sales with the merger, but is it really worth it for all of the collateral damage that is happening? Man, this doesn't look good on paper at all.
