Microsoft "Vi-Fi" becoming a reality

laptopincar.jpg

What's been one of the biggest knocks on having satellite services in cars? Well, for one thing--they are not cheap to buy for the equipment or the subscription. Secondly, they are still somewhat limited in what they can offer overall--there's just not a lot of scalability there for the future.

So, who can improve upon this technology? No one other than the Evil Empire themselves, Microsoft. Partnering with two universities, Bill Gates' baby is looking to make it so that the wireless access that can be built across cellular type of technology can have a bigger inftrastructure and therefore make coverage seamless, much like what the majority of cellular carriers have now. This will allow pretty much the same things as someone sitting at home on the net would have.

I love this concept--I know some people are thinking immediately of the safety factor that can be involved with this, but the reality is that we are a country on the go--despite the lower amount of miles traveled--and business people as well as tech-savvy owners (just look at how the SYNC was snapped up) will really take advantage of this. Go for it!
