MINI New Style Convertible to be rolled out soon

cooper_convt_spy.jpg

The MINI cooper convertible first-generation was a huge smash, as has the majority of all MINI styles, and when the last ones were produced, aficionados were extremely anxious for the next convertible to be ready for purchase. So when news that the next-gen convertible would be shown in Detroit as rumor, fans started clamoring about the R57.

With different stylings and models, one would think that the look would be significantly different--but that is not so in this case--and even hardcore MINI lovers would probably need to look hard to see the differences. From Autoblog: The top works the same, featuring the same partly opened 'sunroof' style and the fully opened wind-in-you-hair mode of the last model. Also, the top does not stow away like many modern convertibles, instead sitting atop the rear deck like many of the classics MINIs. Also conspicuously absent is the large external roll-bar of the old model, replaced with a single pop-up unit for '09. It's under the skin where the changes are most apparent, most notably the new 1.6-liter BMW/PSA/Peugeot-Citroen mill.

Either way, it's something to see these little buggers about, and quality seems to breed quality in the case of MINI. I know that if the rumors are true, I am going to be excited to see the spy shots and progress of this car.
