Mitsubishi to close down Illinois plant for almost 2 months

mitsubishi_eclipse.jpg

After negotiating plans and contracts with UAW just months earlier, the Diamond Star plant that produces Mitsubishi Eclipses and Galants has announced that it will close in early 2009 for approximately seven weeks. The plant employs just short of 1600 people.

Mitsubishi has had a 25 percent sales drop in 2008 through November, and the future is not looking too promising, thus the halt. Will there be guaranteed production after the seven weeks? Well, I guess that all depends on sales, now, doesn't it?

The move will mark the longest production shutdown at the plant according to Dan Irvin, a spokesman for Mitsubishi North America who spoke with Automotive News.

No one is immune. No one.
