Navigon 7100 GPS Highlighted at Consumer Electronics Show

navigon.jpgThe Consumer Electronics Show highlighted several things, but one of the more interesting items I saw was the Navigon 7100, a new GPS system that is basically a Swiss Army Knife of GPS systems.

First of all, it's a no-nonsense system. You don't have MP3s that can play, don't have a bluetooth setup, nothing that is too high-tech for Joe Driver. But what you do have is actually--get this---practical items you NEED while you are driving. First off, it tells you how fast you are going and how fast you should be going in a given area. It also gives you restaurants in a given area to help you decide how to feel your belly. And driving-wise, it not only tells you when to turn, it gives you advance notice of when to get into a given lane so you're not cutting off drivers over three lanes to get to where you need to be. That may be it's best feature!

At 500.00 a clip, it's definitely not cheap--but unlike other GPS systems, you don't have to pay monthly service charges to get updated traffic data--this one covers everything for life. Not shabby at all. Another great advancement for the technology involved with driving. We're steps closer to the autopilot.
