Nissan jumping into EV market in 2010

Nissan EV.jpg

Although Nissan is not a newbie to the electric vehicle market, even making one as early as 1947, it hadn't really taken the world by storm at all in terms of running alongside the heavies in the green stakes. However, that's all due to change in 2010, when the auto maker states it will deliver a new line of EV products that will hopefully rival Toyota and Honda.

While the concept and details have been sketchy, Nissan has stated that the cars will not be a version of an existing model, but rather a uniquely designed sedan with room for up to five passengers. It will be powered by a special breed of laminated lithium-ion batteries made by consumer electronics giant NEC. When discussing price, Nissan has stated that it doesn't have specifics (of course not!), but that it would be considerably less than the hyped up Chevy Volt, which is going to carry a 40K price tag along with it.

The more the merrier in the green eco-friendly world of cars; if we as consumers have more choice and more production to choose from, these "super" cars will be a bit more less in terms of cost based on sheer supply. Sure, it won't come cheap, but with the benefits of several car companies making hybrids and keeping our environment more cleaner than ever, it can't be a bad thing, even in the short term price gauging that will probably occur :)
