Nissan shifting focus from trucks to cars

2009-suzuki-equator-preview_big.jpg

I guess this really isn't news or anything that is mind-blowing. Nissan has announced that while their sales figures rose in May--8.4 percent--and are the envy of the auto maker world, that they are still honing down the emphasis to stay profitable and have decided to up their production of the Altima, who basically was the model that allowed this surge during May.

The plan is to shift around the production amongst plants and basically scale back truck production while upping the Altima numbers, essentially giving a wash in terms of total number of vehicles, the only difference is which ones. This is a great thing considering the real panic with job loss inevitability in that Nissan will not need to make broad cuts in their workforce, just a change in the landscape. Let's hope for the auto workers that this type of mentality is shared as time goes by instead of merely cutting the cord.
