Odell named as new Volvo CEO

It was time. The Volvo brand had not sustained profitability for quite some time, and while CEOs generally get the glory and all of the salary benefits, they also have to take the fall. In Volvo's case, Fredrik Arp was the fall guy, and in his place comes Stephen Odell, who most recently was chief operating officer of Ford of Europe, responsible for product development, manufacturing, purchasing, and marketing, sales and service operations.

At least give Ford credit for taking this initiative for what is a brand they need to save and one that can help catapult them back to the promised land. Odell was in several senior level positions at Mazda from 2000 to 2005. From 1997 to 2000, Odell was vice president, marketing and sales, Jaguar North America. Do you see the common theme? Marketing, Sales, and development. If they need someone to bring back the branding portion of this company, they've got it.
