Porsche Unveils Fastest Production 911

porsche_911gt2_2.jpg

Porsche 911 sales are sizzling globally - setting records of late, while North American 911 growth remains steady. To further strengthen and diversify the 911 brand, Porsche has once again pushed the envelope with the 911 GT2, its most powerful production 911 to date.

A 530-horsepower twin-turbocharged engine jolts the GT2 to a blistering 0-100km in 3.6 seconds and can reach a mind-numbing top track speed of 204 mph. The final push to the Frankfurt Auto show is on and the 911 GT2 is expected to make its world debut there in September. We are not likely to see the GT2 hit North American soil until early 2008 and when it does finally get here, expect a price tag north of $191,000 USD.

911 sales are enjoying higher growth in Canada than in the U.S.. I wonder if something as basic as the brand name could be holding it back just a bit in the American market? Given that the race-bred 911 GT3 has already sold a combined 30+ units in Canada thus far in 2007, I think Porsche's GT2 could settle in nicely into Porsche's Canadian sales mix.
