Recall of 900K+ vehicles another black eye on GM

1_buick_enclave.03.jpg

Almost 944,000 vehicles are being recalled due to a windshield fluid heater system that could potentially cause fires in rare instances. General Motors stated that there were three instances in their fleet vehicles where fires were caused by short circuits in their fleet vehicles which prompted the car maker to contact the NHTSA about the issue. The vehicles affected:

* Model year 2006-08 Buick Lucerne sedans and model year 2008 Buick Enclave SUVs.
* Model year 2006-08 Cadillac DTS sedans and model year 2007-08 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT SUVs.
* Model year 2007-08 Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado trucks and Suburban and Tahoe SUVs.
* Model year 2007-08 GMC Acadia, Yukon, and Yukon XL SUVs and Sierra trucks.
* 2008 Saturn Outlook SUVs.

The solution is that dealers will install a fix that will shut down the system in the event of a potential short circuit. While this isn't something that is overly huge, 850,000 of these cars in the United States, and with confidence in the car maker continuing to be questioned nearly every day, this is another black eye on the image that GM is wanting to represent.
