Reversal of Fortune: Hybrids a few years off for GM Europe

Opel_E_flex_Concept_small.jpg

The press has normally been about all of these cars that we're seeing over in Europe that we don't get, i.e. the ECOnetic, etc. but there's rarely anything showing that we--as in North America/United States--get as a benefit over the Europeans. Well, that's what is exactly happening when it comes to the hybrids that we are getting, i.e. the Volt.

GM Europe head honcho Carl-Peter Forster has said that they will wait a few years to deploy hybrids, both as Opel and as Chevrolet, due to the idea that the high initial costs of the technology could be driven down and to give consumers enough time to get used to it. This is also due to the fact that plug-in hybrids in Europe would actually be more expensive than the all-electric models already there. DOH! So we're not just getting it because you like us better! Sonofabiiiiitch!!!!

Ah well. Puffing up a bit for a little while at least made me feel good this morning. Now back to the doldrums of reality in the auto world...:)
