RIP Ford Ranger in 2009

The Ford Ranger, a favorite for over 20 years, is on its way out. Well, apparently.

It has been known for a while that the Twin Cities Plant in St. Paul, MN that makes the Ranger would close, and the closure date has been pushed back one year, to 2009. The Cleveland plant that casts engine blocks will also close that year. So, according to Automotive News, the logic is that the Ranger is once and for all--done.

Word on the street is that Ford will be more forthcoming (yeah right) at the Detroit Auto Show, but this really doesn't give many options for the Ranger to have anything else done. This is a shame--all of these trucks and SUVs taking up the highways, and the Ranger was really one of the only "compact" trucks out there--and now the concept evidently is done and over with--since this has been synonymous with Ford trucks for over a quarter century. *Sigh*
