Rumor: Toyota moving Camry production to Indiana

2009-camry-ri.jpg

The Princeton, Indiana plant that produces Toyota Tundra has had a collective sound coming from it for a while now; that sound being the hastened chewing of nails as workers have been nervous about the future of the plant. With the SUV and Tundra market going down down down, it's apparent that unless something changed with the sales of the Tundra or Toyota came up with a different solution, it would be curtains for the crew their in the heart of the midwest.

But have no fear, hoosiers...There just may be a saving grace in the form of the Camry. The ultra-efficient car that has been at the top of the sellers for Toyota for a very long time may have its production moved to the Indiana plant and the Tundra production moved to its brand new plant in San Antonio, Texas.

In my opinion, this would be a great move on the part of Toyota in terms of taking advantage of the strength of the Camry, the move away from big trucks and SUVs, and taking advantage of the plant in San Antonio as well. Of course Toyota officials are uber-secretive, but making the plant the third Camry production plant in the United States seems to be a no-brainer at best.
