Scooter Sales Soaring

vespa_scooter_news_image.jpg

This is again the whole "Gee. Mr. Obvious, I would have never made the connection" type of story, as it has been reported that scooter sales are up 66% over last year, much in due part to the gas price issues as well as scooters being able to get sometimes up to 60-100 MPG. While of course scooters are limited in terms of any type of storage, speed, and well...ummm, style--they haven't exactly changed over the last, say, 30 years, but that's not the point.

Motorcycles, while on the same platform (kind of), have not experienced the same type of growth, with only a modest .5 sales increase over the same type period. While most car makers would love to see that half of a percent growth, motorcycle makers aren't exactly thrilled with this--but again, with the price tag that motorcycles carry and not really being gas economical, they are in the same boat as most big cars and SUVs!

Scooter sales will probably continue to go up as recreational use has turned into an alternative vehicle, and since some of the push for electric cars is due to the fact that many people travel less than 40 miles a day, unless those 40 miles are on interstates and highways, having a scooter can really give you the same thing--except cool points.
