Smart Car Sales to surpass US Expectations

us-smart.jpg

When the Smart car first was targeted for car sales, the first figure that Penske Auto Group, who distributes the car in the United States, was approximately 20,000. But after the gas figures went sky high, along with the novelty of itty-bitty car, the Smart cars started flying off the proverbial shelves.

The restated figures show that the cars should be at possibly 27,000 this year, which would be well over 30 percent of the initial figure. Going forward, if production can keep up, Penske AG has stated that they are approximating that 30-32K should be sold in 2009.

Again, as with a lot of the news that is coming out nowadays, this really is not a surprise, what with the shift to the high gas economy and subcompact cars in the States. I would expect that even the numbers for 2009 are understatements when it comes down to it.
