STELLA! STELLA!!

SubiePlugin_270x175.jpg

Ok, for those of you who are cultured or have been around for more than three decades, you SHOULD recognize my subject line as one of the more dramatic parts with Marlon Brando in “Streetcar named Desire”. But for those of you that are a little more wet behind the ears (ya whippersnappers you!), it may not e so prevalent. But, I digress.

Subaru announced that they would be following up their R1e electric car by offering a more larger, electric car built on its Stella platform. The car would use a 40-Kw electric motor powered by lithium ion batteries, which gives a max speed of 62 MPH and a range of 50 miles before needing re-charged.

While again the concept of electric cars is very exciting and one of those distinct choices that can be discussed, the reality of what things that these cars are capable of really do not fit at all into the “reality” of driving on a regular basis. The top speed and range alone limit it excessively, and while again—I understand that the technology will continue to improve and get better as time goes along, the fact of the matter is that this is just another reason to see that we’re still way too early to be considering this as a viable option at this point.
